DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the 60th anniversary of Oceanside Music Association and the 57th anniversary of its Concert Choir as this dynamic choral group performs Favourites Old and New\, with guest cellist\, Ken Mann. Enjoy a collection of songs performed by the choir over the last 6 decades\, some of which were arranged by former conductors\, Dr. John Lewis and Joan Gosselin\, as well as current conductor\, Ann Barber-Becqué.  The diverse concert repertoire ranges over musical history from the Baroque Jesu\, Joy of Man’s Desiring by J.S. Bach\, through the Classical period with excerpts from Haydn’s Creation and Mozart’s Requiem\, to the Romantic and Impressionistic periods of Mendelssohn’s Elijah\, and Fauré’s Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine. Modern composers John Rutter and Karl Jenkins major works are also represented\, along with Folk music\, Canadiana\, and shorter songs by Randall Thompson and Eric Whitacre. Our special guest\, Alistair McVey\, a crowd favourite from Echo Players Theatre in Qualicum Beach\, will perform a reading of The Night Before Christmas with musical accompaniment. The afternoon also features the inaugural performance of Oceanside Pops Choir. Their lively selections will delight us as their Director\, Carole Baker\, leads them through their music. DESCRIPTION:Oceanside Music’s newest choral group begins rehearsals on Thursday nights in September of 2025. This choir will focus on contemporary music under the direction of Musical Director\, Carole Baker\, and accompanied by pianist\, Wendy Alexander. \nCarole Baker is a retired educator with 32 years of teaching experience\, working primarily in the Coquitlam School District. As a music educator\, she taught choir\, vocal jazz\, band and jazz band to grade 9 to 12 students\, which performed extensively both locally and abroad. She was also Music Director of 19 school musicals\, coaching all vocal work and directing the pit bands for each performance. \nJoin Carole at our information session to learn more about Oceanside Pops Choir. DESCRIPTION:Oceanside Music presents the inaugural concert of the Adult Beginners Concert Band (ABC Band) where this large group of adult beginner musicians will show off their musical skills gained since the band’s inception 8 months ago. Under the leadership of Ed Dumas\, the band will dazzle you with their musicality playing a variety of music including rock\, classical\, and lyrical ballads. Joining them is Oceanside Concert Band\, also under the direction of Ed Dumas. Enjoy four nautical songs performed by this well established band and then\, in genuine camaraderie\, the final two numbers of the concert when both bands join forces and play on stage together. \nAdults $20. DESCRIPTION:Spring 2025 finds the Oceanside Concert Band ‘heading off to sea’ with grand works\, harrowing journeys\, tall ships\, a dash of pirate’s adventure\, and mermaids thrown in to spice up the mix. \nThis concert debuts the band’s new Musical Director\, Ed Dumas\, who\, after 30 years’ experience conducting school and community bands\, and six years nestled in the OCB trumpet section\, took the director’s helm this past January. \nThe pièce de résistance of the spring concert will be the guest appearance of the Maple Ridge Concert Band performing under the directorship of John van Deursen and Geeta Das. DESCRIPTION:Oceanside Music is proud to present an extraordinary concert of 3 remarkable Vancouver Island choirs. Oceanside Music’s Consort A Cappella Singers\, Nanaimo’s Island Bel Canto Singers\, and Comox’s Island Voices Chamber Choir. \nOceanside Music Consort A Cappella Singers is a 15-member mixed choir from the Oceanside area. These choristers perform songs with 4 to 8-part harmonies and with occasional instrumental accompaniment. Directed by Ann Barber-Becqué\, the choir sings a diverse repertoire that includes classical works\, traditional madrigals\, new compositions from modern composers as well as Canadiana\, pop music\, show tunes and vocal jazz. The Consort performs in the spring and fall at Knox United Church and at smaller venues throughout the Oceanside community. \nIsland Bel Canto Singers is a women’s adult treble choir based in Nanaimo. Its 30 members enjoy performing everything from classical to newly composed pieces\, pop and folk songs\, as well as supporting Canadian composers. Directed by Fiona Blackburn\, the choir will perform four other concerts this spring in Nanaimo and Parksville. Directed by John Hooper\, their motto is to sing ‘excellent songs excellently’. DESCRIPTION:Audiences of all ages are sure to enjoy the rich sound of the Oceanside Concert Choir as they perform their Christmas Treasures concert this December.
